# Media credits and production review

This directory contains preview media used by the GOATSETTING demo seed. Media files
are stored locally so the app does not hotlink source servers. **No asset in this
directory is cleared for production publication without a manual rights review.**

Per-file source pages are also recorded in:

- `public/media/players/sources.json`
- `public/media/teams/sources.json`
- `public/media/equipment/sources.json`

## Player portraits

Player portraits are a mix of Wikimedia Commons and Liquipedia Commons files.
Wikimedia files carry their own licence (for example CC BY 3.0 or CC BY 4.0).
Liquipedia Commons licensing varies by upload and often requires attribution to
the original photographer. The seed stores `avatarCredit`, `avatarLicense`, and
`avatarSourceUrl` on every player record, and the profile UI links back to the
source page.

Files were downloaded from the source pages listed in
`public/media/players/sources.json`. Do not relicense, crop for commercial
merchandise, or remove attribution without checking the individual file page.

The Team Vitality roster additions use these Wikimedia Commons files:

- `flamez.jpg` — “FlameZ 2024” by VaKarM.net, CC BY 2.0.
- `mezii.jpg` — “Photo mezii IEM Cologne 2024” by Juverx, CC BY-SA 4.0.
- `ropz.jpg` — “Ropz at Blast Paris Major 2023 (cropped)” by VaKarM.net, CC BY 2.0.

## Team logos

Team logos are trademarks of their respective organisations. They were retrieved
from Liquipedia Commons or Wikimedia Commons pages recorded in
`public/media/teams/sources.json` and are shown only to identify the organisation
in an editorial context. A source URL does not grant a trademark or copyright
licence.

Leviatán and Team BDS currently fall back to text marks because no appropriately
sourced local logo was available at the time of the snapshot. The smaller Team
Vitality bee mark is a local square crop of the sourced full wordmark; the
original file remains at `public/media/teams/vitality.png`.

## Equipment product images

Product images were retrieved from manufacturer, retailer, or official product
pages recorded in `public/media/equipment/sources.json`. Copyright and trademark
rights remain with the manufacturer or photographer. The app renders them with
`object-fit: contain` and links to a plain retail search page. No affiliate IDs or
commission tracking parameters are configured.

## YouTube thumbnails

The 27 highlight thumbnails in `public/media/highlights/` were downloaded from
YouTube's public thumbnail host for the specific video IDs listed in
`prisma/seed-media.ts`. Each video ID, title, and channel name was checked through
YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint before seeding. Video playback uses
`youtube-nocookie.com` embeds in a click-to-play modal. Thumbnails are preview
assets and should be replaced with provider-approved assets or removed if the
video is deleted.

## Fonts and icons

- Inter and Sora are loaded through `@fontsource-variable` packages under their
  respective open font licences.
- Icons come from `lucide-react` (ISC licence).
- Social brand glyphs in `src/components/brand-icons.tsx` are adapted from
[Simple Icons](https://simpleicons.org/) (CC0 1.0). Brand names and marks remain
  trademarks of their owners.

## Production checklist

1. Re-open every source page and record the exact licence, author, and retrieval
   date.
2. Replace any image whose licence does not permit editorial/commercial use.
3. Confirm team logo usage with the rights holder or legal review.
4. Remove local YouTube thumbnails if the corresponding video is deleted or
   embedding is disabled.
5. Re-run `npm run data:export` so the exported player dataset reflects any
   updated credit fields.
